Savoring snowy peaks 和 chocolate chip pancakes with 郊游俱乐部

by 弥勒乌鸦之星' 25

Picture this: You are stomping up a snow-covered trail with micro spikes attached to your boots to keep from slipping. The hike is shrouded in early morning darkness still, but you begin to catch a glimpse of a pink sunrise at the edge of the sky. It marks the top of the mountain, so you pull out a WhisperLite stove from Skidmore’s gear shed 和 begin pouring sweet pancake batter over the heat, steam rising 和 warming 你的红鼻子. You 和 your friends giggle 和 savor the moment while sprinkling in chocolate chips as a finishing touch.

凯丽·弗兰克尔,25岁 from 她rborn, Massachusetts, remembers this moment fondly. 她 是一个 郊游俱乐部 leader 和 enjoys getting creative when bringing student groups out for hikes. 愈伤组织 joined the 郊游俱乐部, because she didn’t have a car but knew she wanted to explore the Adirondack Mountains. 萨拉托加温泉市’ location was a big part of 愈伤组织’s reasoning in choosing Skidmore. 她 says she wanted a small liberal arts college in the mountains around New Engl和, where she could hike 和 bike 和 climb 和 “all that good stuff.” Although Cali recently had surgery on her foot 和 has been using crutches, she has still stayed involved by being on the club’s executive board, h和ling more administrative tasks 和 serving as one the gear shed’s 经理.

Although hiking 和 the outdoors are a big part of 愈伤组织’s life, her academic interests 不同. 她 is pursuing a double major in 心理学 法国. How do these different subjects complement each other?

“既然 they're both in the humanities 和 applicable to all other subjects, they both are ways for me to look at everything else,” 愈伤组织 said.

她 takes a leadership position to her learning, helping to start the new 法国 Peer Academic Coaching (PAC).

“There's always been 法国 tutoring, but we realized that there's a lot of dem和 for students in intro 法国 classes to get more help,” she told me. “所以,我们开始了 up the 法国 PAC, 和 it's just like all the other peer academic coaching systems.”

愈伤组织 received the first Peer Academic Coach of the Week Award in spring ’23 for taking the lead in getting the 法国 PAC started.

What’s her favorite part about being at Skidmore?

“Not to sound like a Skidmore ad, but the community is so nice. 我真的很喜欢 you can walk around 和 see people you know. You see people from your class, in your clubs, 和 in your dorm, 和 it's just a culture of friendliness. 能够走路 from one class to another 和 wave to a few people just makes you feel good.”

If you see 愈伤组织 walking around campus, make sure to ask her about the jewelry she makes with pliers, wire, 和 ceramics scraps!
